Maina Holds a Master’s of Science (MSc) degree in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) of Jomo kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology- Institute of Energy and Environmental Technology (IEET) and Bachelor of Environmental Planning and Management (EPM) of Kenyatta University and He is currently undertaking M.A Environmental Law at the Center Of Advanced Studies in Environmental Law and Policy (CASELAP) at the University of Nairobi, Parkland Campus.  He is a NEMA registered EIA/EA Lead Expert. (See www.nema.go.ke /list of experts. No 1238), and member of the Environmental Institute of Kenya. He is corporate member of the Environmental Design Consultants (EDC) Chapter of the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) where he is also the Vice-chairman (aak@aak.or.ke/EDC/chapter officials)

Over a span of 9 years, Maina has been involving pre-ante   (before project) and post-ante (after project) baseline studies focusing on socio-economic and biophysical environmental aspects in water and sanitation, Environmental Impact Assessment and Audits, Integrated Natural Resource Management, Wetlands Management, Arid and Semi-Arid Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Rural, Urban  and Regional planning among others. He has been a team leader and a participant in various projects in Kenya. Some of the projects include: The environmental impact assessment of the of the proposed Turbi, Moyale, Duse, Merille, Oldonyiro, Merti, Eskot,  Korr livestock markets undertaken under the Resilience And Economic Growth in Arid Lands-Accelerated Growth (REGAL-AG) implemented by ACID/VOCA and funded by USAID/Kenya,  Environmental Impact Assessment for the proposed Hay Barn in Milima Mitatu Location Marsabit County under the Building Development Grants by USAID/Kenya and implemented by ACID/VOCA, EIA for the proposed Camel Milk Processing Plant In Tullu Roba, Isiolo Central Division, Isiolo County under the BDG by USAID/Kenya, Environmental Impact Assessment of the Proposed Construction of Nuno-Madogashe Road in Garissa County, Post- Project Evaluation for WASH programs in Turkana County ( Turkana South, Loima, East and West Districts)  and Bokolmayo Refugee Camp in Ethiopia  for International Rescue Committee ( IRC), Project Feasibility  and Environmental and Social Impact Studies for Establishment of Drip Irrigation Project in Katilu  Division, Turkana South District, Turkana County) for National Irrigation Board ( NIB) , Environmental  and Social Impact Assessment for the construction of 3-roomed (600 units) low-income houses for slum upgrading project under Kenya Slum Upgrading Project (Kibera Decanting Site programme) for the Ministry of Housing, EIA for the construction of 140No. maisonnetes in Mavoko Municipality and 24-storey five-star Hotel in Nairobi off Loita street contracted by TMS Consulting Group, EIA for establishment of Horticulture, Farm-fishing and Bee-keeping in Uranga Division, Siaya District contracted by Hope worldwide Kenya, Environmental  and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the construction of Garissa Madogashi-Wajir Road (Class A- 334km) and upgrading to bitumen standard of Lurambi-Nzoia Road for the Ministry of Roads and Lurambi CDF respectively,

He has also been involved in preparation of the project feasibility and EIA studies for the establishment of forest plantation (5000ha) in Soysambu ranch in Gilgil division contracted by African Forest Limited, Environmental Impact Assessment for construction of 2No. 1500m3 water tanks in Shimba Hills National Reserve, Kwale district for Coast Water Services Board and Environmental audits for Manera and Soysambu ranches contracted by Delamere Estates. Other project includes the design and supervision of Waing’ere and Ndumberi water and sanitation projects contracted by Athi Water Services Board among others
